In recent years, environmental protection, sustainability and conservation have become common goals. Problems such as climate change and pollution have caused everyone to worry about the footprint we are leaving on the world.
Biodegradable products have become a popular choice to prevent the expansion of landfills and there has been an explosion of research into biodegradable plastic additives. Manufacturers as well as retail outlets may find it to their advantage to make claims that the products they sell are environmentally friendly. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requires that such claims be supported by reliable scientific evidence.
Over the last fifteen years, Northeast Labs has performed a variety of ASTM and OECD methods for biodegradability in a variety of products, primarily plastics. Currently we are accepting samples for ASTM D5511, an anaerobic method designed to simulate landfill conditions.
